Program Completion
The Graduate Certificate in Working with Survivors of Violence, Torture, and Trauma requires successful completion of 12 credits as outlined in the plan of study. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required to maintain good academic progress towards graduation. Students are responsible for keeping track of their progress and should review their academic record to ensure accuracy.
Deadlines
Graduation form must be submitted by the deadlines below. These dates are strictly enforced.

Graduation Instructions
Students must follow both steps for graduation and receipt of certificate:
- Register for at least one credit in the semester in which you plan to graduate.
- Complete and submit the Graduation and Certificate Request form: Click here.
Timeline:
- Upon final approval, the academic advisor forwards form to the Diploma Office.
- Certificate clearance process can take up to 8 weeks to complete.
Commencement Information
You are welcome to participate in the University of Maryland’s campus-wide commencement ceremonies (May and December only). Graduates’ names will be listed under their degree or certificate in the commencement program.

Continuing Education Units (CE Credits)
The program has been approved for CE credit award agreements from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). The requirements for these organizations to award CE credits to students completing courses in the proposed program are as follows:
American Psychological Association (APA)
Working with Survivors of Violence, Torture, and Trauma (VTT) program is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The VTT program maintains responsibility for this program and its content. Each course will earn a student 30 CE credits.
APA approval for CE credits for psychologists include:
- Students submit a written evaluation for each course to the VTT academic director. The course evaluations must be approved by APA.
- The VTT academic director provides documentation to each student seeking CE credits that includes the APA approval statement, number of CE credits earned, name and date of activity, and the academic director’s signature.
- The VTT academic director maintains records of CE credits awarded for three years after completion of each course.
- Students must earn a minimum grade of 75% in the course to earn CE credits.
National Association of Social Workers (NASW)
Each course will earn a student 30 CE credits.
NASW approval for CE credits for social workers include:
- Students must submit a written evaluation for each course to the VTT academic director.
- The VTT academic director submits evaluations to the NASW within 60 days of the end of each course.
- The VTT academic director maintains program, financial, and attendance records for all students for 6 years.
National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC)
Each course will earn a student 30 CE credits.
NBCC approval for CE credits for counselors include:
- Students must submit a written evaluation for each course to the VTT academic director.
