Academic Overview

Freshmen Connection provides spring-admitted freshmen with the opportunity to start their Maryland education in the fall. You’ll get on track to graduate in four years, earn up to 16 University of Maryland credits, and be a part of all that Maryland has to offer.

In Freshmen Connection, you’ll enroll in Maryland courses and connect to the University’s resources that help you succeed. You’ll take classes with other students in the program, form study groups, and develop social networks that will last throughout your time at Maryland.

Freshmen Connection offers a selection of University of Maryland courses. These courses, known as CORE, help you get started on fulfilling requirements towards graduation. You’ll also register for UNIV100, a one-credit course required of all students in Freshmen Connection. Credits and grades earned in the program are recorded on your University of Maryland transcript and are included in your Maryland GPA. You’re encouraged to take a full academic load (full-time status for undergraduate students is based on registration for 12 or more credits).

Freshmen Connection courses meet 3-9 p.m., Monday-Thursday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, and follow the University’s fall academic semester schedule. Courses are taught by University of Maryland faculty in campus classrooms. The program adheres to all University policies and procedures.

To enroll in Freshmen Connection, you must first:

  • Confirm spring 2010 admission to Maryland (See your admission packet)
  • Take the Math Placement Exam

Enrollment deadline for best consideration is May 14, 2009.

Enrollment and course selection are on a first-come, first-served basis.
