Orientation/check-in day is Sunday, July 28, 2013. No student will be permitted to check-in without having had completed the Confirmation of Enrollment process.

Residential Check-In Session

  • At the residential student check-in, you’ll receive your meal card, room assignment, and keys.
  • Parking attendants will be at the residence hall to direct traffic and unloading. You will be permitted to move your vehicle close to the residence hall in order to unload your belongings. The program does not have staff that can assist with unloading or moving belongings into the residence hall.
  • You may not park and leave your vehicle at the residence hall. Once you have unloaded, you’ll need to move your car to Lot 1.

Commuter Check-In Session

  • At the commuter student check-in, you’ll receive your meal card.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to meet other commuters, exchange information and, perhaps, set-up carpools.

Welcome Session

Program discussion:

  • Introduction and greeting by professional staff
  • History and purpose of the program
  • Basics information
  • Policy and rule highlights
  • Question and answer session

Parents/guardians do not need to attend this event. At the completion of the Welcome Session, commuter students may leave.

Airports

The Baltimore-Washington D.C. area is served by three airports. These airports are located within a 40 – 60 minute drive to the University of Maryland.

  • Baltimore-Washington International (BWI)
  • Reagan National Airport (DCA)
  • Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Students make their own arrangements for transportation to and from the airport of choice. Airport shuttle services may be obtained from the following Web sites:

Traveling by Car

Train Service

Students using Amtrak should use the New Carrollton station, located approximately 6 miles from the University. The station does have taxi service.

Students using Metro should use the College Park Metro Station, located approximately 1 mile from the University. Students should know that campus shuttles do not operate on the weekend during the summer. Students would need to make taxi service arrangements.

Bus Service

Students using a commercial bus service should know that none stop in College Park; rather anywhere from 4-8 miles away. Students would need to make taxi service arrangements.
