Application Instructions

The LEAD program is only open to highly qualified junior Navy and Marine officers that have been pre-selected by the USNA which uses its own criteria and processes to select these students. Formal admission to the program requires that selected cohort members apply to the University of Maryland using the method below:

  1. Online Application: Click here
    • Admission term = Summer.
    • Select Program Code:
      • MPLD (Master of Professional Studies in in Leadership Education and Development)
    • GRE’s are not required.
    • Do not submit payment for the application fee as this will be covered by USNA grant.
  2. Application Supplementary Form (ASF)
    • The ASF is used to track the status of your application.
    • You only need to fill out the part relating to the official transcript information.
    • All other information may be left blank.
  3. Official Transcripts
    • Submit a complete set of official transcripts to:

      Attn: Graduate Admissions
      Room 0130 Mitchell Building
      University of Maryland
      College Park, MD 20742

Program applications will not be reviewed until official transcripts are received by the admission term deadline.

Qualifications

The graduate school requires that all students applying to the program have the following:

  • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the United States, or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree in another country, and
  • A GPA of 3.0.

Deadlines

LEAD is a 12-month program that begins during the Summer Term and ends in May of the following year.

  • Final deadline to apply for Summer Term: May 1

Accepted students are sent an e-mail that provides instruction on setting up a University e-mail account, information for online course registration, and on graduate school policies and procedures.
