Discovery scholars select one of the following courses. Courses meet Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Click on the course to view the description and syllabus if available. For a printable list of all the courses and descriptions, please click here.

Courses in Young Scholars Discovery are part of the University’s Summer Term. These courses follow University policies and procedures and are subject to change. The University reserves the right to cancel courses due to insufficient enrollment or for other reasons it deems necessary.

For rising high school freshmen, there are few programs available in "starting a business." This course truly piqued my son’s interest. Who knows . . . he may even become a Terrapin! DISC parent

Course Textbooks

Textbook requirements are posted by the instructor, usually three weeks prior to the course start date. Your course may or may not require a textbook. You’ll need to periodically check the link below to see if the instructor has posted a textbook.

  • Select Schedule of Classes
  • Select Summer Term
  • Select Course Listing
  • Select the course/department acronym EXST
  • Find the course you are registered for with the section number of YD41
  • Select Books

Textbooks may be purchased from any textbook store or online vendor. For those students who have determined the need for a textbook, you may use one of the following online resources:

Changing Courses

You have until June 20, 4:30 p.m., to request a change to your course selection. A request must be sent via e-mail to ysp@umd.edu and include:

  • Your full name, University ID # (not your SS#), date of birth and
  • Your new course information.

Please note: A change can only be accommodated if the new course has available seats.

On or after June 21: No participant will be permitted to change their registered course. You may not attend a course for which you are not registered. Should a student attend a course other than their approved course, s/he will receive a zero for the registered course.
